ISSUES IN AFRICAN SECURITY AND DEVELOPMENT - DR. EVANS ODHIAMBO ONYANGO

In this interview, Kenyatta University lecturer, Dr. Evans Odhiambo Onyango,
an expert in diplomacy and international relations, talks about variety of issues
in contemporary Africa, including African security, diplomacy, African conflicts
and boundaries, the UN Security Council seats, food security, African
development and peace that has eluded many African countries. He argues
that the nature of threats facing African countries is complex, and that African
states must modernize their military in order to effectively counter some of
those threats. He criticizes African governments that allow foreign bases in
their territories, arguing that Africans do not understand the motives of
some of those foreign powers. Among other conflicts, he talks about
the Kenya-Somali dispute over their maritime region, and the
Elemi triangle on the Kenya/Ethiopia/Sudan border.
